Arnaud - I just had a quick read through your AARs. You're getting some bad luck. In a couple of them you seem to encounter mechanical problems soon after leaving the base. I know of players who have rolled on the Random Events Table each turn, not realising that you only do this on rolling a 12. Either you're doing this or you've got some trick dice from a magician.

I'am using round dice...
I'am gonna to experiment another set of dice next mission.
I'am frustrated to abort or crash.
Thank for the advice

My advice: Don't roll a 12 during the Random Events Phase.

Also, you may be aware that most dice are far from evenly weighted, especially dice that come with wargames. If you seem to be rolling a lot of a given number on a given die, throw it out and use a different die, or invest in a high-quality balanced dice set. In the US, I've seen these at around the $10 per die price point. That may seem like a lot, but if you play a lot of games it's worth it to get a truly random result distribution. Note that a lot of digital dice rollers (like on an iPhone, for example) are rarely "balanced" because of the way that computers generate random numbers. Nothing like a real balanced die.

Hello everybody,

I'm glad to join that group. I own "B-29" for one year now and I fly missions on "Steve gaming place" since # 7.
It is very fun, but I'am surprised how is it difficult to stay alive or even to fly to the target. In six missions I lost my plane 3 times (now it is French kiss IV...), and reach the target 2 times !

How do you succeed in for some of you ?
My crew will never be "veteran"...
I need to change my dice ;-)

See you.

B-29 Campaign - Mission 10: Mission has started and the target is Okinawa. AARS due May 12.

Miguel - If you received an off course result in the formation assembly zone you roll the dice one more time (rule 4.5.C.1) if the result is 1 or a 2 you made the rally point on time. If you rolled a 3 - 6 then you are off course, missed the rally point with no hope of rejoining the formation. Please note you can abort the mission if you wish. If this happens then go to Rule 4.5.C.4

4.5 NAVIGATION (clarification) Navigation is checked when out of formation. Navigation checks are also required in every zone on night missions. Upon successful formation assembly in Zone 3 or 9 (depending on mission) on the outbound leg (flying towards the target), navigation checks are no longer required unless your bomber is the “Lead” in the middle formation. Navigation checks must be resumed upon re-entry into Zone 3 or 9 (again, depending on mission) on the inbound leg (flying towards base) when formations are disbanded.

My second B-29 mission is not going so well. We lost an engine to a bad oil pump random event just as we reached Japan. Decided to push on to the target (Ota) alone. Then a Ki-84 shot up our nose, knocking out the bombsight and flap controls. Also caused the pressurization in the nose to be "compromised". He got some great hits. So we jettisoned the bombs, dropped to low altitude and aborted. Made it back to base but the effort to manually operate the flaps was unsuccessful. We're going to have to land at night, in "bad" weather, no flaps and one engine out. It's like a "-7" roll for landing. Should we bail out? I'm thinking so.

I'm in the middle of my first mission. My objective is an airplane factory at Tokyo. I had a doubt when reached Zone 3 where I was supposed to join the rest of the formation. I made the check mentioned and found I was in time BUT results in navigation said I was off course... so I did repeat the NAV procedure and next time I were again on course... should we make this check to see if we join the formation successfully after we are on course, or in my case I should have either aborted or follow on my own? Could I join? Did I make a mistake?
I'm just about to enter Zone 10 and start to find some enemy planes :)

Just finished my first mission after bringing "B-29" home from Monstercon. I played with the "beginner" rules, next one will have to be with "advanced". Was attacked by a Ki-43 over Iwo Jima, my left gunner died from lack of oxygen over Japan, and we missed the target (Tokyo) completely. Brought the plane home, though. Looking forward to the next one!

Gerry - if you miss forming up in Zone 3 you cannnot rejoin the group. They have left you behind. You have 2 options - abort or fly to the target alone - making nav checks to the target and back.

I will submit the corrections to Shawn who is compiling the list.

Thanks!

OK, I guess that makes sense. As long as the unit has the movement points to leave the formation it's in, and enter the formation it want to go to, it seems logical that it should be able to do it. I was thinking that going from "Deliberate Assault…

You can make a single change to any formation, by paying the movement cost. I can know of no rule that states you must be in Movement to Contact, to make the change. David

The last rules issue we're debating is the "Formation Change" rule. The rules say that only one formation change per Game Turn is allowed. Scott interprets that to mean that a unit can go from Travel to Hasty Assault, for example, as a single form…

Played a game if Vikings last night, and, although I won, it was a little unsatisfying. The complete, and nearly devastating, randomness of the cards almost undid me. Overall, it was an OK game, although there is some ambiguity in the movement rules…

Really haven't figured out Vassal but I am located in Sacramento CA. Once I get some help on it then I'm in for some gaming.

Anyone else have difficulty finding opponents available for online play (e.g., Vassal) during Pacific Time hours? I know I do. I though a group to help identify people who fit that profile might be useful to others.

DOWNTOWN is such, such a great game. Quite a puzzle for both sides. And I love how the scenarios show the progression of air vs air, air vs ground, and ground vs air technology over the years! ELUSIVE VICTORY looks so good as well!
