We liked it enough to do a repeat at Midnite on Saturday!! I bought the extra bag of Flamingo's but felt it made the game drag out, rather than speed it up. The game also played faster the second time around. Having a small table where you can see each others trailer (and tenants) helps. Although after a couple of playings you get the idea of the cards, and can play just by seeing the large symbols in the corners. The text and pictures on the cards are certainly well done.

there's a bunch of discussion about how to boost the War Room going on over at The CABS War Room/Origins page on CSW Forums

Please go leave some feedback on the different ideas being bandied about. (Warning, the conversation is getting a bit long at this point, and please ignore the nay-sayers!)

Tom:

How is Trailer PArk Wars - we saw it but with our compressed schedule, it missed the gut check.

First chance to post here since I got back from Origins. I played Combat Commander, watched Combat Commander and played some more Combat Commander.

Plus got a chance for to play one city/one hand of Hell of Stalingrad, played a game of Conflict of Heroes with Gunter Eickert, and watched Mike and Arnie play a number of games (vs one another and others), including Storm Over Stalingrad and Bravery in the Sand.

Got an overview of the new Musket & Pike series game from Dick Vohlers...all in all a grand time.

Origins = Tons of fun

Thursday: On kid duty, but he was really well-behaved at the Origins War College as I assisted Dr James Sterrett with his "Training with Games, the Army Way". Although I didn't get to play much, we did get the BayonetGames stuff set up in the War Room for Friday & Saturday. The kid and I walked through the dealer hall two times. The first time we picked up a bunch of dice and figures to take home; the second we found The Kids of Carcassonne on the Rio Grande demo table and played 2 games quick (one with just us, the other joined by Jim Snyder). We bought a copy for the kid and he's loved it.

Friday: The last of Dr Sterrett's training sessions, plus my talk at the Origins War College (slides will be over at the BayonetGames website this week). Also, the first of 2 panels-turned-seminars on Professional Games/Sims - this one on the use of games/sims for modeling. Although we wrapped around 9pm, apparently much of the group adjourned to the bar across the street at Max & Erma's and continued the discussion until well past midnight.
In between my talk and the panel, I got a bunch of turns of Orange Crush over at the War Room. Details here: http://talk.consimworld.com/WebX?14@299.bynpfeGBfIw.54@.1dd2a88d/79

Saturday: The second of the Professional Games/Sims panels, this one on the use of games/sims for training, started at 10am. Once that was done, Sterrett, Miranda, and I grabbed lunch and talked about some of our day-to-day work with games. I had some time to squirrel around the dealer room, and got the tour from Bucephalus Games, which is where former GAMA E.D. Anthony Gallela works now. After the CSW group photo kinda fell thru, Pete Bogdasarian and I sat down and played a quick game of Dawn's Early Light (details TBP over at Corps Command folder). Between my we're-stocking-up-on-crew-rest non-flying gunships, and Pete's poor initiative rolls, the game came down to the final impulse of the final turn, as I was able to re-take Eisenbach for the VP I needed for the win. Fun, tense game, with a great system.

Sunday: I'm driving home. Gotta go to work. Ugh.

All in all a great amount of fun and now I can't wait 'til next year. Man, Origins needs to be longer to get in all the fun I want to have.

Was around primarily on Saturday, touring the exhibits and putting time in the war room. Also enjoyed heck out of the auction seeing how much the old Avalon Hill titles were fetching. Couldn't recognize you if I saw you, Tom, as you probably weren't wearing your kevlar (!). Spent time with Steven Cunliffe who walked me through a round of The Hell of Stalingrad which he designed, plus watched as he and another fellow playtested a Midway game he has coming out--enjoyed both experiences immensely. Picked up RAF, Red Star Rising, and Warriors of God at the exhibits. Put in a call to Game Purchasers Anonymous before I spent any more money--I tell ya, just getting only those three games took enormous self-restraint. The most playing of the same game I saw in the war room seemed to be Combat Commander.

Smitty - sorry I never got ahold of you. This weekend turned out to be one my busiest Origins ever (worse than some of the ones I've exhibited at!). I hope y'all had a great time.

This is a cdg based on the game Twilight Struggle. It also has a battlecard system similar to We the People. It's a free game that you can download here: http://social.consimworld.com/profiles/blogs/final-1989-rules-cards-and-map

My guess is that 34R1 overrides the parent section 33L4. 34R1 states "A friendly naval unit may attempt to detect any enemy naval unit that is within its Surface (or Sub-Surface, for submarines) Detection Range. The player announces the detection ...
