Steve, please include me in on the playtest when it's ready.

I had hoped to have the playtest version in the hands of playtesters at the end of October. Events at work and family matters have put me behind. I am still working on writing the rules. My plan is to provide a description of the set up phase of the game posted this weekend. I have to work this in with family visits. I will do my best.

Ken I will put you down - I've fallen behind a bit with work on the game as work has taken up too much time of me. We are down to a staff of 2 where it takes 4 to do the job properly.

The main damage results table is complete - as is the near miss table. This has been the largest part to complete. Also complete - the special attack tables (Ohka, bomb and torpedo).

Work is nearly complete on tables and rules. I hope to have a replay posted using the alpha tables and rules to illustrate game flow by early October so stay tuned! Shortly after that I will release files to playtesters.

Matt - I hope what I have been able to find out works in game playing terms.

There are three repair sections, each section run by a chief. These sections are under the overall command of a damage control officer.

When damage is assessed to a primary compartment in a certain section, Damage control personel are assigned to the compartment by the player. These (each a value of 1), plus the inherent damage control value of a primary compartment (1) will determine which damage repair column to use. The chief rating will modifiy the die roll. The damage control officer rating can be added to the roll for all repairs in one section, but not all sections.

The player will be limited by the number of damage control personnel he can deploy in a section so he will have to prioritize his repair attempts.

We'll see how it goes during playtesting.

OK, I guess that makes sense. As long as the unit has the movement points to leave the formation it's in, and enter the formation it want to go to, it seems logical that it should be able to do it. I was thinking that going from "Deliberate Assault…

You can make a single change to any formation, by paying the movement cost. I can know of no rule that states you must be in Movement to Contact, to make the change. David

The last rules issue we're debating is the "Formation Change" rule. The rules say that only one formation change per Game Turn is allowed. Scott interprets that to mean that a unit can go from Travel to Hasty Assault, for example, as a single form…

I had somebody do Wargames on me in the 'Short Scenario' [latewar/C3i]; so we ended up only playing turns 8&9!

Played a game if Vikings last night, and, although I won, it was a little unsatisfying. The complete, and nearly devastating, randomness of the cards almost undid me. Overall, it was an OK game, although there is some ambiguity in the movement rules…

Really haven't figured out Vassal but I am located in Sacramento CA. Once I get some help on it then I'm in for some gaming.

Anyone else have difficulty finding opponents available for online play (e.g., Vassal) during Pacific Time hours? I know I do. I though a group to help identify people who fit that profile might be useful to others.

DOWNTOWN is such, such a great game. Quite a puzzle for both sides. And I love how the scenarios show the progression of air vs air, air vs ground, and ground vs air technology over the years! ELUSIVE VICTORY looks so good as well!
