How goes the search for local wargamers? I found a great group in Nashville. A host of ASL'er and a fine gentleman who is an avid OCS player .. he's gotten me into Tunisia and now a DAK game. Great to have brethren around. If you're ever in Nashville, give a holler.
It is great fun indeed! I used to play the WW1 era but WW2 is much more to my taste. The quality of the miniatures is first class. Try it, the game is not too expensive.
Hi Glenn, these are Wings of War: Dawn of War WW2 expansion miniature series airplanes from Fantasy Flight Games: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite.asp?eidm=24&enmi=Wings%20of%20War
It is not really a wargame but a good boardgame with gorgeous miniatures.
Right you are, Glenn. The pictures are of the Meuse-Argonne battlefield where so many Americans fought. Was very interested in hearing about your uncle--those vets never got over the gassings they received.
B-17 is a great old, reliable game. The other game you made reference to is Phantom Leader and that is also on my wishlist. You're probably a fan of Dogfights on the History Channel. I watch that over and over again. A few years ago, the History Channel ran an episode called "A Day in the Life of a WW1 Fighter Pilot," and it was fascinating. You could email them or check their website to check on its availability--it was really good. Anyways, you really get the idea that WW1 fighter pilots were writing the book as they went along, not only on tactics, but what aircraft could do and what the pilots wanted the aircraft to do. I currently have RAF, John Butterfield's Battle of Britain game, on the gaming table in the basement, and the instructions are very well written for learning the game. It has three games in one--play the Brits solitaire, play the Germans solitaire, or play f to f with an opponent. I'll keep you advised as to how it plays.
Lastly, re: getting some f to f time, try to get to a convention. I was bringing up a map to see how close you might have been to Indianapolis to get to GENCON this weekend, but there seems to be a lot of territory between you and there (like, KENTUCKY!!). But I attended a couple of days of ORIGINS in Columbus in July and had a great time. People are very nice, friendly, and it's a blast. More later--keep 'em flying!
Hi, Glenn. Welcome to the sight. Wish I was closer to TN as I'm having trouble finding people to play games in Iowa City. Maybe I just have to look harder. Great you're into flying--I was in the AF for 21 years and loved every minute of it. I see we have the same historical game trajectory--AH, SPI, etc. Good luck in finding opponents!
Hello out there fellow wargamers! I bring thee greetings. I am looking for wargamers in Eastern Tenn and Western NC. I am located in Elizabethton Tn. Please contact me if you are out there. e-mail is glenpot423@gmail.com I look forward to meeting you!

Hi Glenn, Sorry to be so far away from a fellow gamer!! We could play on Vassal or Cyberboard. I have several PBEM games going! Do you know how to use those?
Elizabethton is really beautiful. I stopped over there when I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail about 10 years ago. There is a great hiker hostel up in the mountains on the edge of town.
I'm in Nashville .. a good number of hours off from your neck of the woods. I play a good variety of games, trying to get more boardgaming and less computer gaming. Currently playing ASL and Gamer's Civil War Brigade Series .. playing battle of 1st Manassas.
I'm checking out some titles from GMT for next purchase. Got Here I Stand but haven't played it yet. Want to get Burning Blue and Downtown if I can find a copy.
If you're into VASSAL, we should try to find a game.
You have to be an absolute piece of crap, with no respect for history or decency, to pull off this crime:

The Steelers used an onside kick today, and almost snatched defeat from the jaws of mediocrity too. It's a big reason why Roethlisberger could throw for 500 yards and still need the last play of the game to win, by one point.
Hold the line by Worthington games. A GREAT simple revolutionary war game, similar to Command and Colors, but uses Action Points instead of cards. You can move any unit you want with your points. (Similar to Conflict of heroes)
