An Appeal to the Shutterbugs

There are a lot of great and interesting photos posted on this site. I am cursed with a healthy sense of curiosity so I check out a lot of these pictures. And I usually end up learning NOTHING as there is no caption to tell me what the heck I am looking at. You took the time to take the picture, you took more time to post the picture. Could you please take a few more seconds to add a caption to your lovely picture?

I am sure I am not the only one thinking this. There are great photos of… Continue

How Do You Do It?

No, not that "it"...

When playtesting, how do you forget the "old" rules and only remember the new changes? I've been working at this for several years now and have decided maybe I need to hear what other tips and tricks you guys have for dumping old outdated material from the gray matter dustbin and keeping just the new material in your head.

It's not such a problem for me during play, but in post-session discussions on possible changes, updates, alterations, what-have-you I sti… Continue

How Deep is the Crossover?

During a discussion on gaming in general, I wondered what percentage of wargamers also willingly play Euros. And, of course, everyone had a completely different guess with their attendant theory on how that number came to them.

Based on comments overhead at CSW Expo, the games I saw being played in the Annex at the Expo, what gets talked about in the "On The Table" and "Out of the Wrapper" folders on CSW, my guess was that 50% or more of the wargamers also play Euros. The other gamers in my gro… Continue

CSW Expo '08 - Yet Another Rave

The Expo was a blast (as usual) and I actually played a monster game this year instead of wandering around asking "What game is this?" and "Where/when was that battle fought?" I had the pleasure of playing The Devil's Cauldron with Gerry Palmer - twice! - during the first two days of the con. We sat down to work our way through "The Empire Strikes Back" scenario, double-checking and rethinking as we went. The first game was not a close one, but we both figured out a lot of t… Continue

Totensonntag - A Beginner's View

Getting Started: This is a quick and easy game to get into and to play. The rulebook is short - eight pages total: five plages of actual rules, one page of set-up instructions - and it has a nice look to it. The rules were clearly presented and referencing them during play was easy. I have only played through the game once (in two after-work sessions) and I am looking forward to trying it again.

What Happened: I took my eye off the prize. I let my British and South African forces… Continue

Oh, that would be incredibly awesome if you did! As much as I would love to come to the GMT weekends, it just doesn't seem to be in the cards. I'd love to actually meet you guys. :)

I would have loved a rematch but sadly didn't get the chance. Only got in two games of Combat Commander the whole time.

Although I didn't get to play him again in Combat Commander, I did get to play a couple of other games. I beat him in 2 de Mayo and I won the 4 player game of Reef Encounter we played.

Hey, had to share! Just got back from BGG Con. I pulled one of the green tickets and thus went to the special prize room. I was so pumped to find that the CC:E Stalingrad battle pack was one of my choices. Woo hoo!

Along with everything else, I got in two games of CC:E - including a face-to-face game with Rich Pardoe. Dang, that guy's good!

Okay, I'm a talker and online that means I'm a typer. So here I am. If anyone else drops by, say "Hi" and let me know what you are playing these days. I will pop in here from time to time, okay daily, okay several times a day and see if anyone else has been here. Welcome to my blog! Frequent smiley use is encouraged!

Kai,

Hey girl :) I've been perfectly dreadful at writing to anyone on here lately. A THOUSAND apologies. Alaska was amazing. Smitty and I have totally fallen in love with that state; it is "The Last Frontier". If you've never been, you simply MUST go. I have told everyone "You don't 'visit' Alaska. You EXPERIENCE it."
