My first thought was a feline attack on the game--

Yes, it was codenamed "Barbie on a String." Great movie reference (and a pretty good action flick to boot): I say we nuke 'em from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Trust me...this isn't a bad stacking picture at all. I'll never forget the picture of the piles and piles of deep stacks for PWG's Korsun Pocket that was played at CSW Expo many years ago. It was SCARY!!!

And, alas, as can be seen in the final photo for this scenario....those piles/stacks didn't last.

Ha. My mother-in-law calls them "pile games..."

Clear the decks!

Well, Chad and I, and his brother Keith, played out a partial scenario (#19) of Close Action the other night. Even though we got several things wrong (it was our first time), it was thoroughly enjoyable, and we already have plans to continue on with our entry into the Age of Sail. The game itself is fascinating and provides an enjoyable amount of tension with a relatively minimal amount of work. I definitely think that the movement is best served when playing with the Impulse movement rather tha… Continue

Mitch - if you happen to have the actual Word file for the latest version of the SS rules still on your harddrive, please send me a copy. I lost the original in a crash and would like to do some further work on it.

I'm an old 3R player from 1st edition, but I just didn't find much enjoyment in A3R/ERS, so I don't think I would enjoy AWAW, either. I prefer the complexity be derived from the situation and decisions to be made, and shy away from games that make thinks more complex than they really need to be. I'm a DFE player/designer, rather than DFC. Except wen it gets down to tactical games, of course... ;-)

It'd be great to get the STL area wargamers to a local metro convention/game day. Anything like that been done?

Hope to get some momentum going for some more wargaming here in town. Have you played JP3R or TNW or HIS?

Mitch (and the rest of you louts),

This new photo looks a lot better. I tried to find one of me gaming, but all of those photos are of me concentrating on the board, my face mostly hidden. This one is one me flying, and enjoying life.

Thanks for joining the Heartland Gamers group, Mitch! Where abouts in STL do you hang out in? What are your most commonly-played games?

Mitch, I have tried to add a picture, but it will not upload for some reason. It is the same picture I use for my CSW avatar and it worls there and in every graphics saftware I own. Oh well, I am happy in my obscurity and anonymity.

Mitch, you just listed the one series that I find most desirable to play one day -- Battles for the Age of Reason.

Those pesky Iranians! LOL

After turn 1, the Iranians are starting to force their way into Salyan and disrupt the local population, as the Azeris move south.

Granted, there hasn't been much out there to compare this game with. But as a military simulation, it stands head and shoulders over many other attempts. I'll admit, I've only played scenarios and never gotten through the campaign. But I liked thi...

The detail of the US Stryker company coming into the airfield is still loading onto their vehicles, and starts the scenario rather slowly.

Following the Iranian assault on Salyan, and initial capture of the city, the Iranians pulled out of the area to avoid a protracted occupation battle in Salyan. In the meantime, the Azeris have pieced together a mech infantry company, and the US l...

I have VG's Pacific War. I've set it up and played through a couple of Operational level scenarios. It's a "serious" wargame. I enjoyed it, reminded me a bit about work (I am a project manager) so maybe not everyone's cup of tea. The design is imp...

Does anybody lament the loss of the WINTER STORM series? I remember when I got my copy of the original WINTER STORM--I think it was put out by Vanguard Games orginally. For me, a gamer who had learned about the Stalingrad counteroffensive from SPI...

How realistic is it that this game will be republished? I have the old original and agree it's an epic - one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. Also have NES's Killing Ground and would agree that this is an ideal format for a reprint.
